Newry Quarries, Maine - Maine Tourmaline, Maine Minerals and Maine Mining
Newry Quarries Map

Plumbago Mountain...Newry...Newry Quarries...this special place is referenced in many ways by many people. Newry has always been an exquisite blending of history, beauty, and enchantment. From anywhere on the Newry Spur, so called by geologists far and near, one begins to feel that something more, something venerable, lies beyond...and beneath.
The Newry Quarries, the persona of Newry, deserves all the attention that it gets. The insistence with which these quarries call out to be mined is in itself a tribute to their future. Mr. Robert Brown was sitting in his kitchen one warm July morning when they called him. As the story goes, it is now all about keeping up with the destiny of Newry.

"For nature beats in perfect time,
And rounds with rhyme her every rune,
Whether she works in land or sea,
Or hide underground her alchemy."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Poems (1847)
